Fire Insurance
A standard Fire Policy
provides indemnity for loss or damage to insured property resulting
from the following perils:
- Fire
- Lightning
- Explosion of
Boilers and Gas used for domestic purposes only.
The standard Fire Policy can
be extended to include the following perils upon payment of additional
premium:
- Impact Damage by
Aircraft/Aerial Devices
- Bursting or Overflowing
of Water Tanks, Apparatus or Pipes
- Explosion (not limited to
explosion of gas used for domestic purposes)
- Riot & Strike,
Malicious Damage
- Storm, Flood, Hurricane,
Cyclone, Typhoon, Windstorm
- Impact by any Road
Vehicles
- Earthquake, Subterranean
Fire, Volcanic Eruption
How much to insure for?
- Indemnity Basis
Sum to be insured should represent the actual value of the property at
risk at the time of the insured loss or damage. Depreciation should
therefore be taken into account in arriving at the sum to be insured.
- Reinstatement Value
Basis (New for Old)
Sum to be insured must represent the cost of reinstating or replacing
with property of the same kind or type but not superior to or more
superior or extensive than the insured property at time and place of
loss when new.
Main exclusions
- War, warlike perils and
terrorism
- Radioactivity and nuclear
risks
- Wear & tear,
depreciation, insects, moths, vermin, the action of lights, climatic or
atmospheric conditions, scratching of glass or any process of cleaning,
dyeing, repairing, restoring or renovation
- Loss or damage caused by
delay, confiscation or detention by Customs or other Officials or
Authorities
- Any shortage arising from
errors or omissions or revealed only at the time of stocktaking or
making of an inventory, and not identifiable with a specific occurrence
insured.
- Loss or damage by
mechanical or electrical breakdown, but loss or damage resulting
therefrom is not excluded
- Consequential Loss of any
nature
- Pressure waves caused by
aircraft and aerial devices travelling at supersonic or sonic speeds
- Damage caused by the
insured's property own fermentation, natural heating or spontaneous
combustion
